Practical (and pretty) gifts for their new house

Whether they’ve purchased a place or they’re moving into a rental, make them feel at home with useful housewarming gifts to help them decorate, organise and enjoy their space from the minute they move in. From colourful glassware to toast the big move to textiles to brighten their bedroom, these are some of our favourite gift ideas that aren’t just practical, they’ll add a pretty touch to their new abode too.

1. Colourful linens to decorate their kitchen
While they’re still working out where to put the pots and pans, add extra zest to their kitchen with lemon and seafood-patterned linens, from embroidered placemats to grace their table to a colourful apron or oven gloves to protect them while they’re cooking.
2. A doormat to create a welcoming entrance
Add colour to worn or unsightly floors with a doormat for their entranceway. They’ll create a cheery welcome to greet them when they return to their new home, and, if placed inside, will add a bright pop of colour to their hallway too.

3. Photo frames to decorate bare shelves
Filled with anything from personal photos to cheerful art, drawings and pressed flowers, photo frames in a variety of colours and sizes can be dotted around their new home to instantly add decoration and a personal touch to empty walls or shelves.

4. Coffee accessories to keep them caffeinated
Because unpacking is tiresome, keep their energy levels elevated while they open box upon box with coffee. Pair the energy-boosting gift with a beautiful cafetiere they can use long after they’ve moved in, either on their desk while working from home or during lazy weekend brunches.

5. Vases to fill their home with flowers
Instead of a fresh bouquet, why not give them a vase filled with dried flowers? Vases can be placed almost anywhere in their home, from mantlepieces to side tables and dried flowers don’t require any watering, so will look good season after season after season.

6. Glassware to help them celebrate
They’ll likely receive an influx of congratulatory bottles from their friends and family, so give them some fancy glassware to enjoy them in. Stock their home bar with wine, cocktail or gin glasses - they’re as perfect for serving guests at a housewarming party as they are for quiet nights curled up on the sofa with their favourite tipple.
